Cheese!

Things here have been continually busy. After our date night in Guelph Sebastian came down with a nasty cold, which resulted in him having a fever of 101 Fahrenheit. As a result, we took our first trek to the emergency department with him the one night because he screamed whenever he coughed and he just wouldn't stop crying (Why isn't there a handbook that tells parents exactly what's wrong with your baby/toddler?).

In typical Sebastian fashion the moment we entered into the emergency department he stopped crying. The triage nurse checked him out and suggested we stay to get the doctor's opinion (I was worried it could have been pneumonia or bronchitis). So we did and two hours later we were sent home with a little chatty boy who was in great spirits, seeing that it was 3 hours past his regular bedtime, and who had nothing more than a cold. Sebastian entertained us quite a bit though while waiting for the doctor. Whenever someone was paged over the loudspeaker Sebastian would stop what he was doing, look up to the speaker and say "Yup!". It didn't matter what was said, "Paging Dr. Duke" or "Clean up in triage" they would all get an enthusiastic "Yup!". It was interesting that he managed the wait time so much better than Baz & I!

Sebastian has also now started drawing regularly. Initially I thought that perhaps he was too young as I would give him the crayons and his marks were barely visible but then I tried the Crayola's. I hate to say it, but in this instance, the type of crayon did make the difference. Prior to that we were using the dollar store ones... They haven't been tossed as I'm sure I can find some use for them, but Crayola Crayons definitely work much better. And it's so nice to see that he's quite content sitting and drawing.

Sebastian's other favourite past time, which I mentioned in the last blog, is reading. It's so neat watching him recognize pictures and be able to point out various things to us. Even when we switch things up (i.e., "What goes baaa?" as opposed to "Where's the sheep?") he is able to point to the object! Now Sebastian will say "book", go and get a book and come to us to sit on our lap to read. Jamie and I both love reading with Sebastian as it's such a special quiet time shared. It's also wonderful that his books can occupy him for at least 1/2 an hour and that he will often just go and sit in his fuzzy blue chair with a book and peruse through it.

And last but not least, I added this video of Sebastian saying "Cheese". It speaks volumes to the amount of pictures I take of this kid who obviously was waiting for me to take the picture! It makes us chuckle and hopefully you'll find it comical too...

but kim, haven't you learned from us yet, that as soon as they get into the emergency room, all symptoms go away? Glad he is better! love the cheese! Griff's new one is "oh crap". but, when used in the right context, how can I get mad?
