16 Months!

I figured I'd post this now as we will be in Guelph this upcoming weekend attending a wedding shower Saturday afternoon and then actually having a date night while Nonee & Papa spend some quality time with Sebastian.

This upcoming Saturday, January 19th, our little boy will be turning 16 months old. I have been catching myself referring to him lately as our little boy as opposed to baby, and although I miss calling him my little baby, he really is such a little boy!

Nowadays, since Sebastian is so interactive and social, playing has taken on such a different meaning. Sebastian is now playing with us, as opposed to beside us and I love being able to play cars across the kitchen floor with him or sitting down to read and look at books together.

We have also been playing with the mega-blocks that Sebastian received from his Aunt Becky and Uncle Ken for Christmas and I'm amazed at how quickly he's learned to use them. Although he still has some difficulty connecting some blocks, all of the creations are his alone. He places the blocks where he wants them and if they aren't placed securely I will do it for him.

Our other fun game that Sebastian enjoys at the moment is "chase". Sebastian will "hide" (which is totally hilarious as we can see him but he doesn't realize we can!) and he squeals with delight when we find him. The other day I started looking in the cupboards for him and was surprised to hear him laughing at my antics..almost as if he realized how silly I was being for looking in the cupboards for him!

But the thing I cherish the most that really hit home this week is that no matter how crappy, and I mean really really crappy my work day has been, all I have to do is see Sebastian and it all fades away. He definitely helps me prioritize what's important in life and for that, I am thankful. Jamie and I are truly blessed to have such a wonderful and loving boy!

A Man of Few Words....

Teaching Sebastian how he can look at himself in the lid of a pot!

Today while on our way to dropping Sebastian off at Evelyn's and work, Jamie & I were discussing Sebastian's growing vocabulary. It was during this conversation that I realized I had been somewhat delinquent as I had not been writing down every word Sebastian has said and when. So this evening while Sebastian was eating his dinner Jamie & I comprised a list of the words that Sebastian says on a regular basis. And as I really don't have anything else to blog about, and as I really do love bragging about Sebastian (Ask my co-workers! I have no shame when it comes to this kid!), I thought that I would give everyone an update on the words that Sebastian frequently uses.

Words (in no particular order):
- oh-oh
- cat
- ball
- mama
- dada
- dog
- eye
- more
- bus
- car
- banana (nana)
- yeah
- box
- oops
- spoon
- cracker
- baby
- moo
- cheers (clinks his sippy cup with ours)
- down
- e-i-e-i-o (Old Macdonald)
- vroom
- pee
- fish
- papa
- tigger
- cheese (*says this when getting his pic taken)
- bye-bye
- hi

Sign Language
- milk
- apple
- more
- bath
- thank you
- blows kisses
- gives high-5's (not exactly sign language but I didn't know where else to put it)

So ta-da, now I have a record of Sebastian's vocabulary as he approaches his 16th month birthday. Of course, some of these words aren't necessarily clearly spoken, but we know what he's saying and I guess that's what counts!

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

Fort Erie

Sebastian, Jamie & I ventured down to Fort Erie this past weekend to celebrate the holidays with my family, seeing that we were too sick prior to the New Year to do so.

Sebastian, as always, enjoyed himself immensely. He pretty much played non-stop and loved the attention that was so lovingly doted on him. I think he especially liked playing with his cousin Jeremy. And Jeremy was amazing with Sebastian, letting him play with his Transformers (even when he dropped them!) and letting Sebastian take a car home that he had made. It's times like this that make me wish I lived closer to home...which of course, is my way of hinting that my family needs to visit us more often!!

As for today we spent most of our day playing. Sebastian's has tonnes of activities that he enjoys, but right now his favourite things to do are playing "peek-a-boo", in which he will hide behind furniture and slowly peek around to see if we notice him, dancing, reading his books and pointing at the various objects when asked where they are (i.e., where is the banana?"), giggling, talking non-stop, getting/giving hugs & kisses and of course, playing with his cars! Later in the day Sebastian went to see the doctor for his 15 month check up. He's now weighs 23lbs, 4 oz and is 32" long...a 4lb and .25" difference from is annual check-up. Which is surprising, because for those who know Sebastian, he sure enjoys his food!

Holy Crap!

Okay...I stole that title from my friend Kim over at "The Other Mum", but I thought it was fitting and I'm sure she'll take it as a compliment. =)

This morning while Jamie & I were dropping Sebastian off at daycare Evelyn told us that she had forgotten to tell me yesterday that Sebastian had used the potty the previous day! Seems that she is potty training another toddler who is 2 so while she was in the bathroom with her Sebastian began to say "pee". Evelyn asked him if he had to go pee and he said "yeah" (Note: Sebastian says yeah to everything...nice having a yes man...we've never heard him say "no" yet!). So Evelyn placed Sebastian on the little potty while the little girl sat on the toilet and he actually peed!!

So today Evelyn noticed that Sebastian was becoming quiet and he had that nice little look of concentration on his face that all you parents out there will know what I'm talking about. Evelyn asked Sebastian if he had to use the potty and he said "yeah", so out the potty came, Sebastian sat and guess what??? Hence the title of the blog...that's what our little man did.

Is it strange to say I'm not ready for this? Heck, he's not even 16 months old... I never imagined we'd be potty training already! Looks like our next new purchase is going to be a potty. Oh joy! And what's even more odd...I devoted a blog entry to the output of our little man. *laugh*
